Week 2 Best Matchups

New England Patriots at New Orleans Saints

This could have been a Super Bowl matchup three or four years ago, but instead it's just the defending Super Bowl champions taking on a team that went 7-9 in a weak NFC South division.

But this could be the first look at quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo getting snaps with the first unit after he relieved Tom Brady last week.

While it would normally be absurd to think that anyone other than Tom Brady would be under center for the Patriots, a looming four-game suspension demands the second-year quarterback gets some much-needed reps.

It seems like that will be the case, as Garoppolo took every snap at Tuesday's practice, according to Doug Kyed of NESN.com:

"

Garoppolo completed 9 of 14 passes with two interceptions during the brief session, which only lasted an hour. Linebacker Jamie Collins leapt up and picked off a Garoppolo pass near the goal line. Safety Tavon Wilson also pulled in an interception that careened off wide receiver Brian Tyms.

"

Despite his struggles, Garoppolo couldn't ask for a better defense to start against. Last season, the Saints gave up 384 yards per game; only the Atlanta Falcons gave up more. Their pass defense alone allowed 251.2 yards and did little to bring pressure on quarterbacks, as they totaled just 34 sacks.

This means that Garoppolo, if he's behind the first-string offensive line, should have plenty of time to stay in the pocket and pick the New Orleans defense apart.

Green Bay Packers at Pittsburgh Steelers

It's a rematch of Super Bowl XLV as two of the game's best quarterbacks will quickly collide in an exhibition.

There isn't much to take out of the first team's performances when it comes to the first few games of preseason, but as a unit, the Steelers defense, specifically their secondary, is going to experience their first real test.

Then again, they have been struggling since their opener in the Hall of Fame Game against the Minnesota Vikings, according to Bleacher Report's Cian Fahey:

A unit that has lost Troy Polamalu, Ike Taylor and Brice McCain, the Steelers secondary is going to face Aaron Rodgers fresh off an MVP campaign (though for a limited number of snaps).

They addressed one of their voids with the acquisition of Brandon Boykin from the Philadelphia Eagles, and the team also selected two cornerbacks and a free safety in the 2015 draft. One of their selections, Senquez Golson, is currently on the PUP list with a shoulder injury.

Boykin, who recorded 36 tackles and an interception last season, will be thrust into one of the leading roles in Pittsburgh alongside Cortez Allen and William Gay, a pair of corners that combined for 96 tackles and five interceptions last season.

A normally stout Steelers defense allowed the sixth-most passing yards in 2015, ranking 18th in the league—numbers that are not usually seen next to a Pittsburgh team.

Put up a solid showing against Rodgers and prevent him from finding the deep pass to the likes of Jordy Nelson, and confidence will be sky-high for the Steelers defense entering the regular season.
