Aaron Boone Describes 'Broken' Clubhouse, Ripped by Fans as Yankees Swept Out of MLB Playoffs
The New York Yankees were swept in the ALDS, losing 4-3 to the Tampa Bay Rays during Wednesday's Game 3.
Manager Aaron Boone was feeling the effects:
He won't be getting much sympathy from Yankees' fans, however—Boone is not a popular man in the Big Apple at the moment:
"Those are conversations for another day," Boone told reporters Wednesday night when asked about his job security, which might be true for himself but certainly wasn't true among Yankees' fans.
In his nine seasons as Yankees' manager the team has yet to win a World Series title and only played in the Fall Classic once (2024). The Bronx Bombers have made the playoffs in eight of Boone's nine seasons but only advanced past the ALDS three times.
In some markets, that level of consistency would represent a memorable period. But given the Yankees' historical pedigree—and astronomical payroll, even if it no longer tops the sport—expectations are much higher.
At this point, Yankees' fans don't seem inclined to give Boone the benefit of the doubt despite the team being without injured superstar Aaron Judge. It's hard to imagine that general manager Brian Cashman will escape their wrath either. Yankees' fans are ready for the organization's 17-year title drought to end.
Whether ownership also fixates on the manager and general manager as the main culprit in that regard remains to be seen.
