Cody Rhodes Reveals New WWE Contract in Surprising Way and Opens Up About Retirement Timeline
Cody Rhodes announced a new contract with WWE, while also discussing his future plans for retirement during an interview this week.
Appearing Wednesday on Flagrant (h/t Steve Carrier of Ringside News), Rhodes divulged that he "just re-signed" with WWE and will "end [his] wrestling career" with the company:
Rhodes noted that although he "used to have a number in mind" for retirement, his outlook has changed to some degree because watching former wrestlers such as Bobby Roode and Michael Hayes thrive as producers has made him realize he can still be part of WWE and the wrestling business even in retirement.
The American Nightmare went on to tell Flagrant (h/t H Jenkins of Ringside News) that his in-ring retirement "probably will happen sooner than later."
Rhodes added, "When my daughter is 11 years old, I'm not going to be falling down for a living anymore."
The 41-year-old Rhodes has been back with WWE since 2022 after playing a pivotal role in the creation of AEW.
Since returning to WWE, Rhodes has consistently been in or around the world title scene, headlining WrestleMania on multiple occasions, and holding the WWE Championship three times.
It is fair to say Rhodes is still at the top of his game, and the fact that he re-signed with WWE suggests that there are still several big matches and moments in his future.
Multiple big names in WWE have announced their retirement over the past year, including John Cena, AJ Styles and Brock Lesnar.
They were able to step away because the company has been left in good hands with Rhodes, Roman Reigns and so many up-and-coming stars.
While Rhodes is needed as one of the faces of WWE right now, by the time he is ready to retire, there is a good chance the likes of Oba Femi, Bron Breakker, Trick Williams and others will be prepared to take the proverbial torch.
