Wild Cowboys-Steelers Trade Stat Goes Viral After Joey Porter Jr.'s Contract Saga Comes to an End

The Pittsburgh Steelers are getting back a piece of what they traded to acquire wide receiver George Pickens after sending out cornerback Joey Porter Jr.

The Steelers are trading Porter to the Dallas Cowboys in exchange for a 2027 sixth-round pick and 2028 second-round selection, per ESPN's Todd Archer.

Archer and Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer noted the 2027 sixth-rounder was previously part of the deal that brought Pickens from the Cowboys to the Steelers.

Pickens was traded to the Cowboys in May 2025 alongside a 2026 sixth-rounder. The Cowboys received a 2026 third-rounder alongside the 2027 sixth-rounder in return.

The Steelers later used that third-round pick to draft quarterback Drew Allar.

That's not the only recent deal that's been completed between the Cowboys and Steelers. The Cowboys also sent a 2027 third-rounder and 2027 sixth-rounder in exchange for offensive tackle Broderick Jones and a 2027 fourth-round pick.

Pickens, Broderick and Porter were each selected in the top two rounds of the 2022 or 2023 drafts.

The Steelers are stocking up on draft picks by moving them, but not getting back selections in those top rounds. Of the nine picks the Steelers are projected to hold in the 2027 draft, per Tankathon, the franchise only has two of their own picks in Rounds 1 and 2.

The three picks the Steelers have received from the Cowboys, as well as the one selection the franchise got from the Miami Dolphins in the Jalen Ramsey trade, are coming in rounds three through seven.

The Cowboys are now projected to have just four 2027 draft picks, including a single selection of their own, per Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Porter had yet to play this season amid what the team reported was a lingering back injury coinciding with his stalled extension negotiations with the Steelers. DLLS' Clarence Hill Jr. reported Porter will be available to make his Cowboys debut Sunday as a foil for Houston Texans wideout Nico Collins depending on the status of his back.
