Drake Maye Addresses Shoulder Injury Rumors amid Shaky Start to Patriots Season

New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye denied any potential shoulder injury impacting his slow start to the 2026 season.

"It hasn't," Maye told reporters Wednesday. "It hasn't. And it doesn't impact my decision-making."

New England has opened the season with a 1-2 record, while Maye has committed seven turnovers.

He previously received a pain-killing injection in his right throwing shoulder before the Patriots' 29-13 loss to the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl LX.

Maye also appeared on New England's injury report with a right shoulder issue on Wednesday, although he was still a full participant in practice.

In three starts this year, he's completed 63.8 percent of his passes for 585 yards and one touchdown while getting picked off six times. He's also lost a fumble.

Maye is coming off a rough performance during the Patriots' lopsided 35-6 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 3, finishing 14-of-25 for 199 yards and two interceptions.

His 2026 output has been particularly disappointing after putting together a 2025 campaign in which he earned Second Team All-Pro honors and finished No. 2 in MVP voting.

Last year, Maye threw for 4,394 yards and 31 touchdowns while posting a 72.0 completion percentage. He also committed just 11 total turnovers across 17 starts.

Maye will look to get back on track in Week 4, as the Patriots are set to travel to face the Buffalo Bills. The Bills have allowed 254.3 passing yards per game this season, ranking No. 27 among all teams.
