Derrick Henry Jokes Titans 'Shipped Me Out' in Video, Didn't Get Offer Before Ravens Contract

Derrick Henry says the Tennessee Titans did not offer him a new contract before he signed with the Baltimore Ravens ahead of the 2024 season.

"They shipped me out," Henry told reporters before facing his former team this Sunday (h/t ESPN's Jamison Hensley). "No, I don't want to say it like that. It's always love. But no, they didn't offer nothing at all."

Henry continued, "It was bittersweet. I knew the writing was on the wall throughout that season, and they were ready to move on. Good things don't last forever, so it was time for me to find a new home."

Sunday's matchup will mark the first time the Ravens (2-1) and Titans (0-3) have met since Henry signed a two-year, $19 million deal worth up to $20 million with the Ravens in 2024.

Henry had hit free agency that offseason after leading the NFL with 280 carries and recording 1,167 rushing yards with 12 touchdowns in 17 games of a campaign in which the Titans went 6-11.

The Athletic's Dan Pompei reported after that season the Titans had worked out the framework of a potential deal that would have sent Henry to the Ravens ahead of the 2024 trade deadline.

According to Pompei, Henry played out his expiring contract with the Titans after some of the team's leaders shot down the proposed deal.

Henry still knew his time in Nashville was up by the end of that season, if his decision to thank fans for his time with the Titans after the team's 2023 regular season finale was any indication.

Henry ultimately ended up in Baltimore, where he has reset the ceiling for a running back over the age of 30.

After two strong campaigns to begin his Ravens career, Henry leads the NFL in carries (66) and rushing touchdowns (six) while recording 301 rushing yards through three games of his age-11 campaign.

The Titans, which rank 24th in the NFL in rushing yards allowed so far this season, will be tasked with finding a way to limit Henry when the Week 4 matchup kicks off Sunday at 1 p.m. ET in Baltimore.
