Jim Harbaugh Backs OC Mike McDaniel Despite Chargers' 0-3 Start, Justin Herbert's Struggles

The Los Angeles Chargers are off to a 0-3 start to the season, and the offense has been one of the biggest issues.

But head coach Jim Harbaugh still has full trust in new offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel. Harbaugh was asked after a 24-16 loss to the Buffalo Bills if he would consider relieving McDaniel of some of his control if the offense doesn't improve.

"No, we trust Mike. We believe in Mike," Harbaugh told reporters.

As the head coach of the Miami Dolphins, McDaniel crafted some of the NFL's best offenses in recent memory, but he hasn't brought that same success to Los Angeles.

The Chargers rank in the bottom half of the NFL in yards per game (308.7) and are averaging the fourth-fewest points per game (14.7) through three games. Quarterback Justin Herbert has struggled tremendously to start the season, recording 627 passing yards, three touchdowns and four interceptions.

He had his best game of the season against the Bills on Sunday but still managed just 226 yards, a touchdown and an interception.

The Chargers clearly need something to change on offense, but for now, Harbaugh will allow McDaniel to maintain control.
