Myles Garrett Out 'Longer Than Anticipated,' New NFL Rumors on Rams Star's Injury & Return Timeline

Myles Garrett is eligible to return from injured reserve in four games on Oct. 18 when his Los Angeles Rams take on the Arizona Cardinals, but he reportedly could be sidelined "a little longer than expected."

ESPN and NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Sunday that Garrett was instead given an approximate timeline of six weeks after undergoing knee surgery, which means he could also miss Los Angeles' Week 7 matchup with the Las Vegas Raiders and Week 8 game against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Garrett was sidelined for the majority of training camp, although he played in Week 1 against the San Francisco 49ers in Australia.

Yet he did not look like his typically dominant self in the 49ers' 20-point victory. The NFL's reigning Defensive Player of the Year and sack king failed to tally a single tackle and was noticeably limping during the game.

"When I was out there, I was a little bit more focused on myself and trying to stay healthy than what they were doing, and that showed," Garrett said after the game, per ESPN's Sarah Barshop. "I wasn't who I needed to be for my team."

Rapoport reported Garrett remains "determined to beat the timeline" but also added the Rams will use caution after trading so much to the Cleveland Browns to acquire the seven-time Pro Bowler.

Los Angeles sent pass-rusher Jared Verse, a 2027 first-round draft pick, a 2028 second-round draft pick and a 2029 third-round draft pick to Cleveland for Garrett this past offseason.

It was a clear win-now trade for a Rams team that reached last season's NFC Championship Game and has a number of impact veterans, including quarterback Matthew Stafford and wide receiver Davante Adams.

That Aaron Donald then came out of retirement to join Garrett along the defensive line only drove home the point further that Los Angeles is eyeing a Lombardi Trophy this season.

However, Donald did not play in Week 1, which means he and Garrett are yet to suit up alongside each other for a game. It seems like Rams fans may have to wait until the Week 9 game against the Washington Commanders to see that happen, which isn't until Nov. 8.

Los Angeles bounced back from its Week 1 loss with a commanding 22-point win over the New York Giants in Week 2. It will look to tread water until Garrett is ready to return, although things don't get much easier in the immediate future with three straight games against the Denver Broncos, Philadelphia Eagles and Buffalo Bills.
