Don Mattingly's Phillies Future Discussed by Dave Dombrowski After Chad Tracy, Andy Green Contracts

Philadelphia Phillies president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski weighed in on interim manager Don Mattingly's role after the 2026 season on Tuesday.

"[We] have felt it is better to wait until our season is complete," Dombrowski told Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer (h/t Anthony Franco of MLB Trade Rumors).

Dombrowski also revealed that "there has not been" any additional discussion surrounding Mattingly's future after other recent extensions, via Lauber.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Boston Red Sox announced that the team was promoting Chad Tracy to a full-time manager position and removing his interim tag. The Red Sox signed Tracy to a contract through the 2029 season.

The New York Mets also removed Andy Green's interim tag and named him full-time manager on Tuesday. Green received a three-year deal from New York as well.

Mattingly is now the only current interim manager in MLB, holding the position since Rob Thomson was fired on April 28.

Philadelphia was just 9-19 at the time, although the team has gone 78-51 since.

It's worth noting the Phillies announced that Mattingly would only remain in his current role through the end of the 2026 season after parting ways with Thomson, although Mattingly has expressed a desire to continue serving in the manager role moving forward.

The 65-year-old has previously operated as a manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers and Miami Marlins, compiling an 889-950 record across 12 years with both clubs.

It appears as though Philadelphia's postseason result will have an impact on Dombrowski's final decision regarding Mattingly, as the Phillies currently hold the final National League Wild Card spot.
