Mets Name Andy Green Full-Time Manager, Contract Details Revealed Ahead of 2027 MLB Season

Andy Green is no longer the interim manager of the New York Mets.

Instead, he will occupy the role in a full-time manner.

The Mets named Green their full-time manager with a three-year deal, which removes his interim tag.

He was filling in as the interim after the National League East team fired Carlos Mendoza earlier this season.

The Mets had high expectations coming into the 2026 campaign with the league's second-highest total payroll and the high-profile addition of Bo Bichette to a lineup that already featured Juan Soto and Francisco Lindor.

However, they struggled out of the gates and were an ugly 34-47 when they fired Mendoza.

It was a far cry from when Mendoza led the club to the National League Championship Series in his first season as manager in 2024, and the team responded to the failure to live up to expectations by making the move.

While there will be no playoffs for New York this season, things have gone better under Green.

The team is 37-38 with him as the interim manager despite trading away a significant amount of players ahead of the August 3 deadline. The Mets traded away Freddy Peralta, Clay Holmes, Tyrone Taylor, Luke Weaver and David Peterson, among others.

It was anything but an easy situation for the interim manager, but he kept the team afloat as the overall record improved.

As a result, he will be a full-time manager for the second time in his career.

Green was the manager of the San Diego Padres from 2016 until they fired him during the 2019 campaign. He did not make the playoffs and went 274-366 overall, but he will look to improve on that mark with another opportunity in New York.

The Mets will finish the 2026 season with series against the Texas Rangers and Washington Nationals starting Tuesday before turning their attention toward bolstering the roster for the 2027 campaign.
