Carlos Beltrán Won't Rule Out Interviewing for Mets Manager Job Ahead of 2027 MLB Season

Now in his fourth season working in the front office for the New York Mets, Carlos Beltrán is leaving the door open to potentially manage the club when they conduct a search in the offseason.

Speaking to reporters prior to Saturday's game against the Philadelphia Phillies, Beltrán said he enjoys his current role with the Mets and the flexibility it allows but he didn't rule out interviewing the club.

Andy Green has served as interim manager since June 26 when Carlos Mendoza was fired following a 34-47 start to the season.

The Mets have fared better under Green's watch with a 36-37 record entering play on Saturday, but he has said he intends on returning to his normal job as senior vice president for player development when the season ends.

Per ESPN's Buster Olney, Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns is expected to lead the managerial search with Beltrán and Albert Pujols cited as potential candidates for the job.

Pujols previously managed Leones del Escogido in the Dominican Professional Baseball League during the 2024-25 season. The club won the Serie Final to win the LIDOM championship in his lone season as manager.

Beltrán was set to manage the Mets after being hired in November 2019, replacing Mickey Callaway. However, he agreed to step down two months later after being named in MLB's investigation into the 2017 Houston Astros cheating scandal as someone who helped created the plan.

MLB did not discipline Beltrán for the situation, but Mets officials reportedly wanted a clean break to avoid any potential distractions.

After spending the 2022 season working for the YES Network as a New York Yankees analyst, Beltrán returned to Queens when he was hired by the Mets to work in the front office as a special assistant.

The Mets (70-84) have been eliminated from playoff contention for the second consecutive season after reaching the NLCS in 2024.
