New York Jets wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. is going to miss at least four games due to an ankle injury.

Per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Jets will place Cooper on injured reserve to give him at least four weeks to rehab his sprained ankle suffered in Week 1 against the Tennessee Titans.

The earliest Cooper can be activated off IR is after New York's Week 5 game against the Cleveland Browns.

Cooper was injured in the first quarter against Tennessee after playing just five snaps. He did have a 30-yard catch on the opening drive that helped set up Kenyon Sadiq's three-yard touchdown run two plays later.

The Ringer's Tom Pelissero reported shortly after the game concluded that Cooper's X-rays came back negative and he was believed to have suffered a high ankle sprain.

Even though Cooper didn't practice this week, Jets head coach Aaron Glenn indicated the team was hopeful to avoid an IR stint by labeling him "week to week" on Wednesday.

Depending on the severity of the ankle sprain, recovery timelines can range from two weeks to more three months. Rapoport noted the expectation is Cooper "should be back shortly," suggesting it's a lower-grade sprain.

Cooper was one of three first-round picks for the Jets in the 2026 draft. He was selected with the No. 30 overall selection after a four-year college career at Indiana.

The 22-year-old was the Hoosiers' leading receiver with 69 catches and 937 yards last season to help them win the first national title in program history.

Until the Jets get Cooper back, Adonai Mitchell will likely move into a starting role opposite Garrett Wilson. Mitchell caught all three of his targets for 60 yards against Tennessee in Week 1.

New York's next four games without Cooper are against the Green Bay Packers, at Detroit Lions, at Chicago Bears and home against the Browns.
