18M Views and 'Sheer Ass Whupping,' Tyler Owens' Viral Play Draws More Reaction to Epic Video

JJ Watt was apparently not the only person around the NFL world impressed by last Sunday's highlight-reel special teams run from Washington Commanders safety Tyler Owens.

The clip, which Watt praised as "legitimately one of the greatest football plays I've ever seen," showed Owens shoving his way between two Eagles blockers on punt coverage before fighting his way downfield to complete a tackle.

The post received 18 million views on a single social media platform, per ESPN's John Keim.

The video also drew praise from Commanders special teams coach Larry Izzo, who described the play to Keim as "just a sheer ass whupping."

"When you combine that mindset and that play style with the freakish skill-set he has, that's what you're left with, which is an exceptional play, one that in 30 years in the NFL I don't know if I've seen a better demonstration of just a dude whupping people's asses," Izzo told Keim.

Owens is playing in his third season with the Commanders after taking the field for 84 percent of Washington's special teams snaps last season.

His dominant play last weekend might draw him some extra attention from Dallas Cowboys coaches game-planning for punt returns during Saturday's Week 2 matchup in Arlington. Kickoff between the Cowboys and visiting Commanders is scheduled for 4:25 p.m. ET.
