The weekend got off to a good start for Chicago Cubs third baseman Alex Bregman, who celebrated a win on Thursday even though the team was off.

Act of Parliament, a horse owned by Bregman Family Racing, scored his first career win in a race at Churchill Downs.

Bregman got to celebrate the victory with some of his Cubs teammates, who made the journey to Louisville to cheer on Bregman and his horse.

"It was electric," Will Walden, trainer for Act of Parliament, said. "To have Alex and the entire team here and then have the horse come through like that made it a pretty special night."

The celebration probably didn't last too long for Bregman because Act of Parliament, who was purchased by Bregman and his family for $65,000, was claimed in a blind draw for $20,000 after six different owners submitted bids to buy the three-year-old colt.

Bregman and the Cubs will be back in action on Friday when they take on the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ballpark. Chicago (85-68) is tied with the Philadelphia Phillies for the No. 1 wild card spot in the NL. Its magic number to clinch a playoff spot is down to four.
