Bills Beat Lions, Box Score Stats, Highlights for Josh Allen, Gibbs, Goff, Cook, Top Players

Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills established themselves as Super Bowl candidates in Week 1, and they did nothing to dispel that notion in Week 2.

In their first game in the New Highmark Stadium, the Bills beat the Detroit Lions 41-31.

What's more, Bills head coach Joe Brady became the first head coach in franchise history to start his coaching career 2-0.

The Bills came in as 5.5-point favorites (via FanDuel Sportsbook) after a strong showing against the Houston Texans to start the season.

The Bills could do no wrong in the first half, quickly jumping out to a 27-7 lead thanks to a rushing touchdown from Allen plus touchdown catches from Joshua Palmer, Dawson Knox and Dalton Kincaid.

The Lions had a slow first half but managed to gain some momentum in the third quarter with a touchdown from Amon-Ra St. Brown to start the second half, but Buffalo answered quickly to jump back out to a 34-17 lead.

Jared Goff's touchdown pass to Sam LaPorta early in the fourth quarter kept Detroit alive, and the Lions forced a Bills punt on the following drive. Things stalled after a quick three-and-out, though.

From there, the Bills mounted a lengthy clock-killing drive that ended with a James Cook touchdown. Detroit answered with a score to make it a 10-point game, but had far too little time to mount a comeback.

For Bills fans, it's hard not to feel good about how Buffalo has looked through the first two weeks of the season. Allen appears to be on his way to another MVP-caliber season, and he has some solid weapons around him.

The Bills' defense has room for improvement, but it's been an otherwise perfect start to the year.

The Lions went to overtime with a rebuilding New Orleans Saints squad in Week 1 before the double-digit loss on Thursday, so they have some reflecting to do as they try to make their way back to the playoffs.
