2026 NFL Week 2 Top Takeaways and Biggest Questions for Every Team

Fireworks for the NFL's second week of action began early when the visiting Detroit Lions helped christen the Buffalo Bills' brand new Highmark Stadium.

The marquee match followed Sunday's blistering performances, where last weekend's outcomes made it the highest-scoring Week 1 Sunday in NFL history.

The rest of the teams around the league also hope to register high marks as they work their way through Week 2.

Dalton Kincaid Is Buffalo Bills' No. 1 Target

Special tight ends aren't just weapons in their respective offenses; they can be No. 1 options in the passing game. Dalton Kincaid should be officially anointed as the Bills' top receiving threat after the first two weeks of play.

The tight end caught a team-leading seven catches Thursday for 95 yards and a touchdown. He now has 12 grabs for 225 yards after facing the Houston Texans and Detroit.

Kincaid's emergence helps soften the blow of DJ Moore leaving the Week 2 contest with a shoulder injury. The Bills traded for Moore this offseason to be their WR1. Without him in the lineup for any period of time, Buffalo is back where it started at wide receiver.

Instead, quarterback Josh Allen can continually lean on Kincaid, who's usage could mirror that of a Travis Kelce or George Kittle.

Bills' Greg Rousseau Evolves Into Final Form

In a world enamored by Pokemon, Rousseau has made the transition from beginner Charmander to a full-blown Charizard, and he's been on a heater to start the 2026 campaign. The 2021 first-round draft pick has been flying off the edge and creating havoc everywhere.

He followed his two-sack performance in Week 1 with another pair of sacks against the Lions. He also has nine quarterback hits during that stretch. This caliber of play could eventually warrant national recognition.

For now, the Bills should be content with the emerging difference-maker, because Rousseau's four sacks so far are only three behind last season's team-leading output.

Detroit's Dismal Defense Dooms Docket

The Lions expected a bounce-back campaign this fall. Detroit won't come close to the team that made an NFC Championship Game appearance during the 2024 campaign if its defense isn't fixed.

During Thursday's contest, the Buffalo Bills accumulated 446 total yards and scored 34 points before the fourth quarter even began. The Lions' pitiful defensive effort came on the heels of nearly surrendering a 21-point second-half lead to the New Orleans Saints four days earlier. The Saints managed 469 yards during that contest.

The Lions didn't own the NFL's worst defense coming out of Week 1, but back-to-back weeks of inferior performances offset anything Detroit does offensively.

Lions RB Jahmyr Gibbs' Play Deserves Attention

Detroit has a lot to fix after its 1-1 start. Whereas Gibbs has been a silver (and Honolulu blue) lining. The Lions' running back managed 113 yards from scrimmage Thursday. He's a legitimate weapon in both phases of the game and nearly impossible for any defense to guard.

Amon-Ra St. Brown provides high-end consistency as a pass-catcher. However, Gibbs' explosive traits and ability to create mismatches elevates the entire offense. If the Lions can't slow any opponent defensively, Gibbs is the caliber of player who can still keep Detroit in games.

A season can get out of hand quickly. This Sunday's setup may be a perfect example of how organizations can head in drastically different directions even this early in the process.

Only two Sunday contests feature matchups with a pair of 1-0 teams. The NFC West meeting between the Arizona Cardinals and Seattle Seahawks may be the most intriguing since quarterback Sam Darnold won't play and Mike LaFleur's squad surprised with a Week 1 victory.

Conversely, nine different meetings will be a clash between 1-0 and 0-1 opponents.

MNF Matchup: New York Giants at Los Angeles Rams

Aaron Donald is expected to make his 2026 debut Monday after spending the last two seasons as a happily retired person. Unfortunately, Donald won't get to line up next to Myles Garrett, who is now on injured reserve after requiring a knee surgery.

The 1-0 New York Giants may not be a good matchup for the 0-1 Los Angeles Rams, either, since John Harbaugh's squad will bring a physical brand of football that will challenge Donald and a Garrett-less defensive front.
