Dak Prescott Responds to Cowboys' Doubters After Loss to Giants, 'Nobody's More Pissed Than Myself'

Dak Prescott provided his response to doubters of the Dallas Cowboys following the team's 28-20 defeat at the hands of the New York Giants in Week 1.

"I mean, it's a long season," Prescott told reporters Thursday. "I love our fans, but I don't necessarily feel like I need to speak to that fan. Sorry for them. If they're a real fan, they'll stick with it. They'll trust it. They'll believe in it. And at the end of the day, it is one game. Yeah, it sucks, it's the first game.

"Nobody's more pissed than myself and these guys in here. We didn't want to start 0-1. We're as excited as any fan out there about the offseason and things we've done in the training camp. So, turn that energy and come to the game this Sunday and be as loud as you can. We appreciate it."

After consecutive seven-win seasons in 2024 and 2025, the Cowboys revamped their defense heading into their 2026 campaign.

They added pass-rusher Rashan Gary to a defensive line that already featured Quinnen Williams and Kenny Clark before bolstering their secondary by signing safety Jalen Thompson in free agency. Dallas also selected safety Caleb Downs with the No. 11 overall pick in the 2026 NFL draft.

Still, the Cowboys experienced issues slowing down the Giants in Week 1.

New York finished with 394 total yards and 29 first downs, punting on just one of its seven drives. The Giants were also able to control the clock throughout the second half, as the Cowboys only had two possessions across the final two quarters of action.

As for Prescott, he went 22-of-34 for 175 yards and two touchdowns compared to one interception.

It isn't hard to imagine the veteran passer bouncing back, as he's coming off a 2025 campaign in which he threw for 4,552 yards and 30 touchdowns. There are still concerns surrounding Dallas' defense, though.

The Cowboys will attempt to avoid an 0-2 start against NFC East rivals during a Week 2 matchup with the Washington Commanders on Sunday. Kickoff is at 4:25 p.m. ET.
