Ryan Reaves Announces NHL Retirement After 16 Seasons, Played for Rangers, Penguins, Blues and More

Ryan Reaves is calling it a career.

The right winger announced on Instagram on Wednesday that he's retiring from the NHL after 16 seasons with seven different teams.

Reaves was drafted by the St. Louis Blues in the 2005 NHL draft and made his NHL debut with the team in 2010. After seven years with the Blues, he joined the Pittsburgh Pirates for the 2017-18 campaign but was traded to the Vegas Golden Knights halfway through the season.

He remained with the Golden Knights through the 2020-21 season, scoring a career-high 20 points during the 2018-19 campaign.

Reaves' time in Vegas ended in 2021 when he was traded to the New York Rangers, and he was then dealt to the Minnesota Wild during the 2022-23 season.

He signed with the Toronto Maple Leafs in free agency ahead of the 2023-24 season and ended his career with one year with the San Jose Sharks.

Reaves finishes his career with 962 games played, 66 goals and 74 assists. He'll be remembered for his physicality and fighting ability, which led to him spending 1,137 minutes in the penalty box.

"Today, I retire from the sport I've loved since I was 5 years old. It was a hell of a ride. Thank you to everyone who supported me throughout this journey. There are too many to single out, so you'll hear from me at some point," he wrote in his post.

"I may not be on the ice anymore, but I know I will always be close to hockey in one way or another. You can rest easy knowing the corners are a little safer today."
