Javonte Williams Apologizes to Cowboys Teammates for Taunting Penalty in Giants Loss, NFL Fines RB

Dallas Cowboys running back Javonte Williams revealed that he apologized to his teammates and received a fine for his taunting penalty in a 28-20 loss to the New York Giants on Sunday, according to Clarence Hill Jr. of DLLS Sports.

"You don't have to worry about it no more," Williams said Wednesday, per Hill. "I'm done. It was my fault. I'm better than that."

With the Cowboys facing a 28-14 deficit as just over five minutes remained in the fourth quarter, Williams caught a short pass from Dak Prescott and scored a 17-yard touchdown.

As Williams was crossing into the end zone, he held out the ball towards Giants safety Tyler Nubin and was given a taunting penalty for the gesture.

The penalty pushed back the Cowboys' ensuing extra point attempt before kicker Brandon Aubrey was unable to convert on his 48-yard try.

Dallas never ended up receiving the ball again, as New York ran out the clock on its final drive of the game to seal the win.

Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer reacted to Williams' penalty after the defeat.

"We're getting ready to try to go in for two and make it a one-score game," Schottenheimer said, per ESPN's Todd Archer. "We're going for the win. That's not like Javonte."

Williams was fined just four times through his first five years in the NFL (via Spotrac).

He finished with 41 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries against the Giants on Sunday. The 26-year-old also factored into Dallas' passing attack, hauling in five receptions for 31 yards and one score.
