'Very Disappointed,' Cam Ward Reacts to Titans' Blowout Loss to Jets in Season-Opener

With new head coach Robert Saleh in town and Cam Ward entering his second, the Tennessee Titans seemed due for a year of growth.

One game into the 2026 campaign, that doesn't seem to be the case. The Titans opened their season with a 23-10 loss to Saleh's former team, the New York Jets.

Ward failed to get much going under center, and he said he was "very disappointed" by his performance.

"Those are some big plays that we could have had, but we still got a lot of things to clean up for sure," Ward told reporters. "I'm very disappointed. We're better than what we showed offensively. We trained a lot this offseason. We had some hard days. It didn't pay off for us today, but it's going to pay off for us eventually, whether it's next week or the week after, but we're going to get it rolling, and it's exciting."

Ward completed 19 of his 32 pass attempts for 140 yards and a touchdown, adding 21 yards on the ground. His biggest issue was accuracy, as the former No. 1 overall pick missed a handful of receivers on what would have been big plays.

Saleh brought in former New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll as the Titans' offensive coordinator, which led to high expectations for Ward, but it's clear the 24-year-old still has a long way to go.

Ward and the offense's poor performance led to boos from fans in Nashville.

"It doesn't make me feel any type of way. The fans come here for a show," Ward said. "They spend their money to come see the Titans win games, and we want them out here each and every day."

A performance such as Sunday's could lead to big changes for a team trying to rebuild, but Saleh emphasized that he won't make any emotional decisions after a rough first game.

"I think everyone's a little frustrated," Saleh said. "Don't confuse my calm demeanor with frustration, but before I blurt and start screaming, I'm going to watch tape and try to make sure that we make rational, educated football decisions to make sure that we're putting our players in the best position to be successful. Same thing with our players. I can throw podiums around if you want to make everyone feel good. But it's really go back, watch the tape, figure it out and see if we can get better from this."

Things don't get any easier next week as the Titans face the Philadelphia Eagles. Unless Tennessee turns things around dramatically in the next week, the team will be on its way to a 0-2 start for the third consecutive season.
