Alvin Kamara Injury Update and Fantasy Outlook for Saints vs. Lions Amid Knee Issue
New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara's availability is still up in the air heading into a Week 1 matchup with the Detroit Lions on Sunday, according to Nick Underhill of New Orleans.Football.
Kamara is listed as questionable on the team's official injury report with a knee issue.
From a fantasy football standpoint, the veteran might not be a large part of New Orleans' offense even if he's able to suit up. Underhill noted that Kamara isn't expected to have a huge role if he's active.
The 31-year-old started his career as an immensely productive piece of New Orleans' offense, which also made him a top fantasy performer.
From 2017-21, Kamara racked up 7,501 all-purpose yards and 67 total touchdowns. He also provided value in PPR leagues, as he amassed 373 receptions across that span.
Kamara only appeared in 11 games last year due to an MCL sprain, finishing with 471 rushing yards and 186 receiving yards. He found the end zone once.
The Saints eventually brought in Travis Etienne during the offseason, as both Etienne and Kamara are listed as their No. 1 running back. Former third-round pick Kendre Miller should also see opportunities as part of New Orleans' backfield.
Kamara is still available in 64.1 percent of fantasy leagues, per FantasyPros.
While he could make an appearance against Detroit on Sunday, the uncertainty surrounding his playing time should cause fantasy managers to be cautious about starting him.
