New NFL Rumors on Patriots Adding Defensive Reinforcements After Week 1 Loss to Seahawks

Coming out of a Week 1 loss and looking ahead to their Sept. 20 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, the New England Patriots are beefing up their defensive front.

Per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Patriots are expected to sign DaQuan Jones to a one-year, $3.5 million deal worth up to $6 million.

There weren't a lot of notable injuries on the defensive side of the ball for New England coming out of Wednesday's 13-10 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Cornerback Carlton Davis III briefly left before returning.

Christian Barmore missed their first practice of the week before returning on Monday. He went on to play 30 defensive snaps against Seattle.

Second-year lineman Joshua Farmer played just nine snaps in his first game back after a hamstring injury ended his rookie year in Week 16.

Jones is a 12-year veteran who has played for three different teams. He most recently suited up for the Buffalo Bills last season, recording eight quarterback hits and three sacks in 12 starts.

The 34-year-old Jones was originally a fourth-round draft pick by the Tennessee Titans in 2014. He spent seven seasons with the Titans before signing with the Carolina Panthers as a free agent in April 2021.

After one year in Carolina, Jones moved onto Buffalo where he spent the last four seasons. He has 34 tackles for loss and 20 sacks in 167 career games.

Since the Patriots opened the season on a Wednesday, they have four extra days before their Week 2 matchup with the Steelers. The reigning AFC champions are looking to avoid an 0-2 start for the first time since the 2023 season.
