Neither team got off to a particularly strong start offensively, combining for three punts on four drives in the first quarter. San Francisco held a 3-0 lead heading into the second.

Los Angeles eventually found the end zone first, as Kyren Williams' five-yard rushing touchdown put his team up 7-3.

The Rams appeared to be gaining more momentum after a pass from Purdy was picked off by safety Quentin Lake on San Francisco's ensuing drive, but Stafford immediately followed it up with an interception of his own.

Purdy got back on track quickly, connecting with Demarcus Robinson for a 39-yard touchdown to put the 49ers in front once again.

Both teams traded punts on their next two drives, as San Francisco entered halftime with a 10-7 advantage.

The 49ers' offense stayed hot in the second half, moving deep into Los Angeles' territory to open the third quarter before Mike Evans hauled in a short pass from Purdy in the end zone.

The Rams appeared to be on the verge of responding, driving down to San Francisco's one-yard line on their next possession.

However, the 49ers' defensive front stopped a quarterback sneak by Stafford on fourth down to complete a goal-line stand and give the ball back to their offense.

San Francisco took advantage of the opportunity by going on an 11-play, 99-yard drive that ended with a touchdown pass from Purdy to Deebo Samuel.

As Los Angeles attempted to mount a late comeback, 49ers linebacker Fred Warner forced a fumble from Rams tight end Tyler Higbee for another turnover.

San Francisco eventually cruised to the win, as the Rams were held scoreless over the final two quarters of action.

While it's worth noting that Los Angeles was without future Hall of Famer Aaron Donald during the game, Myles Garrett still had a relatively quiet night.

The reigning Defensive Player of the Year, who set a new single-season record with 23 sacks in 2025, wasn't able to bring down Purdy in his Rams debut. Garrett also didn't register a tackle.

San Francisco thrived on the ground throughout the contest, rushing for 174 yards as a team while averaging 5.8 yards per carry. The 49ers picked up 23 first downs compared to just 15 for the Rams as well.

Los Angeles fell to 0-1 with the season-opening defeat as San Francisco moved to 1-0.
