New Trailer for OWN Documentary on All-Black Women's Volleyball Team Drops Ahead of Premiere Date

"We Belong Here: The Story of Team Dream," a documentary chronicling the first-ever all-Black women's professional volleyball team, will debut on the Oprah Winfrey Network on Saturday, September 26 at 9 p.m. ET.

A press release read in part:

"Told entirely through the voices of the women themselves, with no external narrator, 'We Belong Here: The Story of Team Dream,' is a story of triumph. The film honors the athletes' resilience, joy, humor, friendship, and pride, while acknowledging the systemic barriers they faced. At its heart, it is a story about determination, community, and the power of belonging."

As noted in the release, the team was led by former Texas volleyball superstar, two-time AVCA First Team All American and NCAA national champion Haley Eckerman.

The team had "limited practice," per the release. However, that didn't stop Team Dream from a dominant performance. Team Dream went 7-0 overall, winning gold in the five-team tournament.

It wasn't easy all along the way. Team Dream had a pair of tough five-set matches in the playoff bracket, especially in the semifinals, when the squad was down two sets to zero against Team Freedom. However, Team Dream rallied for the 3-2 win before doing the same against Hoosier Exterminators for the triumphant victory.

The documentary, which was produced by Bunim/Murray Productions (a Banijay Americas company), has already premiered at the Martha's Vineyard African American Film Festival.
