Drake Maye Talks Tom Brady Advice, Explains How it Would Be 'Disservice' to Constantly Call NFL Icon

New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye explained why he doesn't routinely contact legendary former signal-caller Tom Brady for advice.

"I think the only advice that I've ever felt like I needed from Tom was the way he did things and the way he approached the game," Maye said during a Tuesday appearance on the Strong Talk podcast (45:55 mark). "I think for me to ask him questions and call him all the time would be a disservice to what he did and how he did it in his time here in New England and at such a high level for such a long time and the greatest to play the position."

"I think he set the standard of playing the position in the NFL and he set the standard at the highest level there ever is and people are trying to chase him," he added. "So, it's our job to try to learn and pick up things that he did and try to match it."

Brady knows what it takes to succeed under center in New England, helping the team win six Super Bowl titles during his 20 seasons with the Patriots from 2000-19.

Maye is looking to help the organization hoist the Lombardi Trophy once again after making a Super Bowl LX appearance in his second year as a starter.

In 17 games last season, he completed 72.0 percent of his passes for 4,394 yards and 31 touchdowns compared to eight interceptions. He also added 450 yards on the ground, finishing No. 2 in MVP voting.

It's understandable that Brady and Maye might not be frequently communicating, as the former is entering his third season as a broadcast analyst for NFL games on Fox while continuing to serve as a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders.

Still, Maye is looking to follow Brady's example from his highly successful tenure in New England.

The Patriots will kick off their 2026 campaign with a battle against the Seattle Seahawks on Wednesday at 8:20 p.m. ET.
