Carlos Alcaraz Explains Why He'll Take More Breaks During Tennis Season After Wrist Injury
Carlos Alcaraz revealed that he plans to take more breaks in 2027 after dealing with a wrist injury during the 2026 tennis season.
"I'm kind of a guy that doesn't need to play a lot of tournaments," Alcaraz said Friday, per the Associated Press (h/t ESPN).
"I just feel like you can have those moments of time to have a break, to prepare well for tournaments, to prepare well mentally," he added.

The 23-year-old wrapped up a 6-3, 6-4, 6-1 victory overย Wu Yibing in the third round of the US Open on Friday.
Alcaraz was previously sidelined for over four months due to a right wrist injury that he suffered at the Barcelona Open, causing him to miss Roland-Garros and Wimbledon.
He confirmed that he hasn't experienced any setbacks in his recovery during his current US Open run, though.
"It feels like I've been competing the whole time. So I surprise myself the way that I'm feeling and the way that I'm recovering after every match," Alcaraz said, via ESPN. "So I'm just really happy about it that I'm able to perform at my best after every match."
While a lighter schedule seems to be on the horizon for Alcaraz, he'll look to defend his 2025 US Open title and capture his eighth career Grand Slam championship for now.
