Ashton Jeanty's Injury Status Revealed by Raiders HC Ahead of Week 1 vs. Dolphins
Despite an ankle injury scare during training camp, it seems as if Las Vegas Raiders running back Ashton Jeanty will be available for the team's Sept. 13 opener against the Miami Dolphins.
"Yes," Raiders head coach Klint Kubiak told reporters Wednesday when asked if he was optimistic Jeanty would play in that contest.
While initial reporting indicated there was significant concern among the running back's teammates when he suffered the injury and was helped off the field, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported last month he avoided a season-ending setback.
"It's nothing like that," Rapoport said. "My understanding... is that it's an ankle sprain believed to be more low than high, and not considered to be a major injury. But it is a real injury, and the reality is, there is a chance that Ashton Jeanty may not be on the field for Week 1. They are hopeful that he will be. There is a chance that he won't be."
Kubiak's comments suggest that Jeanty will be available against the Dolphins, although ESPN's Ryan McFadden reported he didn't practice Wednesday.
Jeanty surely wants to play against a Dolphins team that may be among the Raiders' more favorable opponents of the season.
That would give him an early opportunity to build on his solid but unspectacular play from his rookie season in 2025 when he tallied 975 yards and five touchdowns on the ground behind just 3.7 yards per carry.
Las Vegas made him a franchise building block when it selected him with the No. 6 overall pick of the 2025 NFL draft, and he didn't quite live up to elevated expectations in his first year in the league.
But Jeanty now has a season of experience under his belt and will look to take a second-year leap, assuming he is healthy enough to be on the field when the regular season starts.
