Michigan is back! What we learned from Week 2 College Football
Michigan is BACK!
The Michigan Wolverines upset the Notre Dame Fighting Irish this past Saturday 38-34. The week before they trounced Western Michigan 31-7 giving them two wins straight up and against the spread. Freshman quarterback Tate Forcier has been the key to the Wolverines’ success as he has completed over 67% of his passes while throwing for 419 yard and 5 touchdowns in just two games. Michigan has also had tremendous success running the football averaging 216 yards per game in their first two outings on the ground. Rich Rodriguez appears to have the right personnel for his offense and Michigan is back in the top 25. I know it’s early but the Wolverines could make some noise in the Big 10 race.
Houston is a team to watch in Conference USA
Houston was a 16.5 point underdog heading into its game against Oklahoma State in Stillwater. The Cougars pulled off the upset by winning the game outright 45-35. Oklahoma State was rated sixth in the country after beating Georgia handily in its opening game. The Cougars put up over 500 yards total against the Cowboys and their offense appears to be one of the best in Conference USA thus far. They threw 366 yard and rushed for 146 on the ground. They have a well-balanced attack and should be very tough to stop in conference play. I think the Cougars put themselves on the map as the frontrunner to win the conference championship.
Matt Barkley is the right man for the job
Tons of question marks surrounded around whether or not a true freshman quarterback could go into a hostile environment and lead his team to a win in a game of gigantic proportions. Well, Matt Barkley answered the bell in Columbus last Saturday night leading his team to victory on the final drive of the game. Although his numbers weren’t all that impressive going 15-32 for 195 yards, Barkley showed poise and composure under pressure leading the Trojans on that final drive. He managed the game well and didn’t make any mistakes. He showed a lot of courage and character on the biggest stage of his life and led the Trojans to a big win in a big game.
