Manchester United Transfer News: Sergio Ramos Always Wanted Real Madrid Contract
Sergio Ramos has insisted that a move from Real Madrid to Manchester United, or anywhere else, would have been a “waste of time” after signing a new deal with Los Blancos.
The La Liga side confirmed the player had signed a new deal on their official website, but there were stories emerging from very reputable sources throughout the summer that Ramos wanted to make the switch to the Premier League giants, per Sid Lowe of the Guardian.

But the defender insisted a move elsewhere was never on his mind, per AS English:
Ramos went on to reaffirm that he never had eyes for a move away from Real Madrid and that his decision to stay was not based on financial matters, per Dermot Corrigan of ESPN FC:
Ramos was speaking at a ceremony alongside his family in which his new deal was announced on Monday. Club president Florentino Perez also reaffirmed that he will be Real Madrid captain moving forward, per Corrigan.
Naturally, Ramos isn’t going to admit he was keen on a move to United, as was reported in Lowe’s aforementioned piece, at this ceremony. But he did suggest all was not well at the Santiago Bernabeu prior to committing his future to the club, per Corrigan:
According to John Cross of the Daily Mirror, Manchester United are said to be “fuming” that they’ve been unable to land Ramos and they feel as though the player used them as a “negotiating tool” for an improved deal. It’s noted that the only way the Red Devils would have sold David de Gea to Los Blancos was if the centre-back was part of the transfer.

But reading between the lines, the vast majority of football fans were able to see how this saga was eventually going to pan out.
The centre-back took to social media to express his delight at signing a new deal:
After losing legendary goalkeeper Iker Casillas this pre-season, Real would have been desperate to keep hold of another club icon. Even if a new deal hadn’t been agreed on, it still would have been a major surprise to see Los Blancos sanction any kind of sale for the 29-year-old defender.

As we can see here courtesy of Squawka Football, his experience is simply indispensable:
United seem as though they were lured into the prospect of landing Ramos, and when you look at what he’s experienced in the game, it’s understandable. However, it would have been unwise of them not to consider contingency plans given the quality of the player and his longstanding association with Real.

Football journalist Rafael Hernandez thinks that it’s an experience that the Red Devils must learn from going forward:
Ramos is a Madridista through and through, which is clear given the passion with which he plays every time he dons the all-white strip. Regardless of his overall intentions, whether underhanded or not, both parties will be delighted that this matter is concluded and the defender will be keen to lead Madrid into a critical spell in their history.
United still have two weeks until the end of the window to snaffle defensive reinforcements, but there’s a sense that had Ramos come in, it would have been not only a major coup, but a massive surprise too. With that in mind, don’t expect those at Old Trafford to be losing too much sleep about the player’s decision to sign on with Real.
