Barcelona Transfer News: Latest on Pedro and Alex Song Rumours

Christopher SimpsonAug 16, 2015

Pedro's move from Barcelona to Manchester United is set to be completed imminently, per the latest reports.

According to George Bellshaw of Metro, Sport are reporting that the Spaniard will "complete his £24 million transfer to Manchester United from Barcelona on Tuesday."

The forward looks likely to depart the Camp Nou this summer rather than spend the year sitting on the sidelines providing cover for Barca's untouchable front three.

After scoring a dramatic injury-time winner in the UEFA Super Cup clash with Sevilla, Pedro elaborated on his situation.

According to the Press Association, via ESPN FC, the 28-year-old told AS: "It's not for money, as has been saidwhich is another lack of respect. It's a question of continuity, of minutes. I'm an ambitious player. Stay or go, I will always be of this team."

Despite Neymar's absence through illness, Pedro still failed to make the starting XI.

Per the Press Association's report, he told Spanish TV station Antena 3: "The truth is I had a good chance to play, especially because of what happened to Neymar, and it wasn't to be. The coach has decided not to count on me. I don't know, I don't know if I will continue here."

The Spaniard will almost certainly get the game time he craves at Old Trafford.

As they showed in their opening two wins, which came via an own goal and a deflected effort, United are clearly lacking a lethal touch in front of goal as well as pace and creativity in the final third.

Pedro appears the perfect solution to the Red Devils' profligacy, and so with both parties having much to offer each other, a switch to the Premier League is the most likely outcome unless the Blaugrana can convince him to stay.

Everton to Muscle in on Alex Song

According to Fichajes.net, via Louis Sealey of Metro, the Toffees "are ready to launch a transfer bid for Barcelona midfielder Alex Song after hijacking West Ham’s deal."

The Cameroonian, surplus to requirements at Barcelona, was loaned out to the Hammers last season, and the Blaugrana will now be hoping to move him on permanently.

As Goal's Ben Hayward noted prior to his loan spell, the 27-year-old has struggled to impress since joining the Catalan giants:

Spanish football expert Sergi Dominguez believes the Blaugrana would benefit immensely from his sale:

The midfielder could be a useful acquisition for either English side though.

Song made 28 league appearances for the Hammers last season, with WhoScored.com illustrating his effectiveness at recovering the ball:

An experienced Premier League player from his time at Arsenal, the midfielder is more than capable of helping out his defence, while his distribution and vision are excellent.

Though he only averaged a 76.7 per cent passing accuracy last season, he regularly maintained over 90 per cent accuracy during his time with Barcelona, per WhoScored.com.

Sealey's report indicates Everton may be able to acquire Song for just £3.6 million. At that price, the midfielder represents a fairly low risk.

No doubt he will be eager to impress as he bids to kick-start his career and the Toffees will likely benefit from his experience as they seek to qualify for the Europa League.
