Arsenal Transfer News: Latest on Mario Gotze and Joel Campbell Rumours

Rob BlanchetteAug 15, 2015

Arsenal are in the hunt for German World Cup winner Mario Gotze, with the player said to no longer be on speaking terms with Bayern Munich coach Pep Guardiola.

Sean Kearns of Metro reports Bavarian club supremo Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has urged the 23-year-old to make an immediate decision about his future—with Arsene Wenger waiting in the wings to pounce if Gotze decides to leave: "Mario has to make a decision. Of course there is big competition in his position but we all know how long his contract is—he has two more years."

Gotze's agent has also voiced his client's discontent with the Bundesliga giant and proclaimed the player may yet opt for a move away from Bayern.

Louis Sealey of Metro quotes Volker Struth speaking to Tuttosport about the player's time at the Allianz Arena and confirmed both Gotze and the club have not ruled out a potential transfer from the German champions:

"

Mario has made it clear that his last two seasons have not been idyllic. However, it’s also true that no club has come forward with an offer. Bayern have not ruled out a possible transfer, just as we won’t rule out any possible opportunity, to stay or go abroad. There’s still a long way to go until the end of the transfer window, so anything can still happen.

"

Gotze has also cited his relationship with Guardiola is far from perfect, as reported by Goal.com's Miles Chambers:

On the surface, it appears Gotze has failed to win Guardiola's trust, but his statistics tell a different story.

The attacking midfielder started 37 times for the Spanish coach in the Bundesliga and Europe last term, per WhoScored.com, bagging an impressive 13 goals in the process.

Gotze opted to join Bayern over Arsenal in 2013, per Kearns, but he might be in a position to rethink that decision now that his relationship with Guardiola has reportedly soured.

Campbell Destined For Italy

Joel Campbell's disappointing time in north London appears to be over with the player set for an Italian adventure with Palermo

Sky Sports Italia (h/t Bruce Archer of the Express) report the 23-year-old is bound for Serie A after impressing on-loan at Spanish club Villarreal last season.

Campbell has spent his Gunners career primarily on loan at different clubs across the continent, and his future has never appeared to be at the Emirates.

Gotze would be a stellar signing for Wenger in terms of pedigree and ability, but it is questionable whether the Premier League club needs a player of his type.

Gotze is a silky performer who has plenty of big game experience at a young age, but the Gunners' midfield is packed full of talent and stars.

If Gotze were to decide to come to England, he would be better suited at one of Arsenal's main rivals who do not have the embarrassment of riches that Wenger possesses in midfield.

It is no surprise Campbell will be exiting the London side; he has the ability to be a first-team player at a lesser club, but certainly not at Arsenal.

His place in the squad can be filled by one of Arsenal's young guns, giving the winger the chance to permanently start again elsewhere.
