Carson Beck Injury Status for Cardinals vs. Cowboys Preseason Game Revealed Amid Rib Issue
After Carson Beck suffered a rib injury earlier in training camp, Arizona Cardinals head coach Mike LaFleur revealed the quarterback's status for Saturday's preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys.
LaFleur told reporters that Beck "most likely" won't play against Dallas, but he'll throw after practice on Thursday so the Cardinals can determine where he's at.
LaFleur also noted that Jacoby Brissett won't play and Gardner Minshew will get the start.
Beck, a third-round pick out of Miami, had a tremendous showing in the Hall of Fame Game against the Carolina Panthers, throwing for 188 yards and a touchdown on 15-of-19 passing.
"It feels great to go in and succeed and execute within the offense. And, obviously, again, there's going to be things to fix," Beckย told reportersย after the game. "You got to go watch the tape and there's always so much room to improve, even just being a rookie, being a new guy and kind of getting my first taste of the league."
Unfortunately for Beck, he suffered a rib injury that forced him to miss last week's game against the Las Vegas Raiders.
Brissett started in that game but Minshew got most of the action, completing 14 of his 16 passes for 101 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Kedon Slovis also got some snaps, throwing for 75 yards on 7-of-9 passing.
With Brissett out and Beck likely to miss as well, Slovis should see plenty of reps this week.
Beckย reportedlyย was in the mix to be the Cardinals' starter for Week 1 early this offseason, and it's unclear where he sits on the depth chart now. Unfortunately, possibly missing another preseason game is just another opportunity missed for Beck to show what he can do.
Nonetheless, Arizona's coaching staff has to be happy with Beck after the way he started the preseason, and he'll look to pick up where he left off when he returns from injury.
