Cardinals' Carson Beck Reflects on Impressive NFL Debut in HOF Game vs. Panthers

Despite a dramatic 33-30 loss to the Carolina Panthers, Arizona Cardinals rookie Carson Beck was pleased with how he performed in his first NFL start in the Hall of Fame Game on Thursday night.

Speaking to reporters after his impressive debut, Beck kept things in check by acknowledging he wants to watch the film to stay on an upward trajectory:

"It feels great to go in and succeed and execute within the offense. And, obviously, again, there's going to be things to fix. You got to go watch the tape and there's always so much room to improve, even just being a rookie, being a new guy and kind of getting my first taste of the league."

Beck, a third-round pick by the Cardinals in the 2026 draft, finished 15-of-19 for 188 yards and one touchdown. He played five series and into the third quarter, leading three scoring drives in the second quarter.

One thing that stood out to Beck is the difference between the 13-minute halftime in the NFL and college, which runs about 20 minutes, and how it helped him stay loose.

"I kind of liked it, being able to get back out there," Beck said. "They were like, 'We have X amount of minutes' — I forget exactly what it is — and I was like, 'Wait, really? That's pretty fast turnaround.'"

The Cardinals are going to open the regular season with Jacoby Brissett as their starting quarterback, but it wouldn't be a surprise if at some point Beck gets a chance to showcase his skill in games as the team evaluates players who can be part of the long-term future.

Even though neither team on Thursday was showcasing their starters, Beck's play was a positive first impression for the coaching staff to evaluate.

Next up for Beck could be a rematch of sorts from the College Football Playoff Championship Game in January against Fernando Mendoza when the Cardinals take on the Las Vegas Raiders on Aug. 13.
