Von Miller Details Dak Prescott Conversation in Las Vegas Before Signing Cowboys Contract in NFL FA
Von Miller is going to attempt to help Dak Prescott win the first Super Bowl of his career, but he envisioned the quarterback breaking through even before he joined the Dallas Cowboys.
Miller revealed Tuesday he ran into Prescott in Las Vegas this offseason and had words of encouragement.
"I'm like, 'Hey man, this is about time, Dak. It's about time. You got to break through one of these years. I think this year you'll be able to do it. You got everybody to do it,'" Miller said, per ESPN's Todd Archer. "And I didn't have any inkling on being a Dallas Cowboy. That just happened naturally.
"And then the Cowboys reached out and I was just like, 'Bro, this is a sign. This is a sign for me.' We worked on it, talked to some other teams. But ultimately my love for the Dallas Cowboys, my chicken farm is here, my family's here. Just about being a Dallas Cowboy and wearing that star was beneficial to me and my family and ultimately was what made the decision for me."
Reach out they did, and Miller officially signed his deal Tuesday:
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported it was for one year and up to $7.5 million.
Miller certainly knows better than most what it is like to lift the Lombardi Trophy as a two-time Super Bowl champion with a resume that includes three First Team All-Pro selections, eight Pro Bowl nods, a Defensive Rookie of the Year and a Super Bowl MVP.
The future Hall of Famer has 138.5 sacks in his career, nine of which came last year when he was with the Washington Commanders.
Now he is with the team he cheered for as a child from Texas, so he certainly knows the Cowboys are trying to break a drought that has seen them fail to advance past the NFC Divisional Round every season since they won the Super Bowl during the 1995 campaign.
That covers Prescott's entire career, but Miller believes the quarterback is primed to break through and reach the sport's mountaintop.
And now he can help his new teammate do just that.
