Breece Hall's Injury Return Timeline Updated by Jets' Aaron Glenn After Groin Setback
New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn gave a positive update Tuesday regarding running back Breece Hall and his status for Week 1 of the 2026 NFL regular season.
Speaking to reporters about Hall's groin injury, Glenn said that although he will be out for two to three weeks, his star running back will be ready for the team's regular-season opener against the Tennessee Titans on Sept. 13:
Hall strained his right groin during practice on Monday, but Glenn told reporters at the time that he did not think the injury was a "big deal."
Selected by the Jets in the second round of the 2022 NFL draft, there were major question marks about Hall's future with the franchise dating back to last season.
There was some thought that he would be traded at the deadline due to the fact that he was playing on an expiring contract, but Hall and the Jets were able to reach a long-term agreement in May when he signed a three-year, $43.5 million extension after New York had already placed the franchise tag on him.
Last season was a massive struggle for the Jets as a whole, as they finished just 3-14, but Hall was among the team's lone bright spots.
He eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark for the first time in his career, rushing for 1,065 yards and four touchdowns on 243 carries, while also catching 36 passes for 350 yards and one score.
With exception of his rookie year, which was cut short after seven games due to a torn ACL, Hall has finished with at least 1,300 yards from scrimmage in each of his NFL campaigns.
Last season's 1,415 yards marked the second-most total yards of his career, and offered some hope for the Jets' future.
Following last season's overall offensive struggles for the Jets, the organization acquired veteran quarterback Geno Smith and selected tight end Kenyon Sadiq and wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. in the first round of the 2026 NFL draft.
Additionally, star wide receiver Garrett Wilson should be fully healthy after playing in just seven games last season due to injury.
New York's offense should be a much more talented unit as a whole, and that could help Hall achieve a career year, provided he is indeed healthy and ready to go at the start of the season.
Should anything go wrong with Hall's recovery, 2024 fourth-round pick Braelon Allen would be the leading candidate to take on the lion's share of the backfield work, two years removed from rushing for 334 yards as a rookie.
