Seth Rollins Has Made the WWE Title Prestigious Again

Sebastian MaldonadoAug 14, 2015

Seth Rollins is your WWE champion whether you like it or not.

Rollins stole the title away from Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 31, where he cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase during Lesnar’s match with Roman Reigns. Rollins pinned Reigns to become the champion, and he hasn’t slowed down since.

Rollins has left every challenger in his wake on both TV and pay-per-view events. A plethora of opponents have fallen before the arrogant heel.

Yet more wrestlers still keep coming after him. It only shows how important the title has become.

When Lesnar held the title, he didn’t go everywhere. Granted, the title was still huge because of Lesnar’s credibility. In recent memory, one of the biggest stories is that he is the only man to have ever held both the UFC and WWE heavyweight titles. Lesnar becoming champion once again was enthralling.

Lesnar’s seven-month reign will go down as one of the most memorable in WWE history, all because of the person he is.

This brings us to Seth Rollins, the irredeemable bad guy—the man who betrayed his brothers to buy into success has done just that. His five-month duration as champion to date proves the WWE’s Creative Team has faith in its champion.

Now, he’s slated to wrestle John Cena if doctors clear Cena for action come August 23 at SummerSlam. The match will be title for title, with Rollins defending his title against Cena, whose U.S. Championship will also be on the line.

This could be the end of the road for Rollins’ time as champion. If so, you cannot deny the obvious and give credit where credit is due.

Seth Rollins has made the WWE title prestigious again.

It started the day after WrestleMania, when Rollins appeared on the Today Show after his title victory. He flew to San Jose the same day to appear on Raw.

That day set off a chain reaction for Rollins.

He went on to defeat Randy Orton inside a steel cage at Extreme Rules. The next month saw Rollins resume hostilities with his former Shield teammates, Reigns and Dean Ambrose, along with Orton.

Rollins continued his feud with Ambrose for the two pay-per-views thereafter, culminating in a successful beatdown of Ambrose at Money In The Bank. Rollins also turned back the threat of Neville, not once but twice.

The only blip on his almost perfect resume is his Battleground bout with Lesnar. It wasn’t a bout, more of a domination. Lesnar beat Rollins from pillar to post but was not victorious. Rollins should thank Undertaker for that.

That fight might undermine the title’s importance. However, that was about Undertaker’s vengeance rather than Rollins' title.

Two weeks later, Seth Rollins challenged John Cena for his United States title.

Rollins broke Cena’s nose. Read what underlines that action: The WWE champion broke the United States champion’s nose!

That speaks volumes. A singles match between two wrestlers goes down as an unfortunate incident. A champion puts another champion out of action, and chaos runs amok.

That’s the power Seth Rollins has without anyone realizing it. He’s not a dominant champion, just a successful one.

Seth Rollins has made the WWE world heavyweight title prestigious again by overcoming insurmountable odds by any means necessary. It may not be the popular reign, but it should go down as one of the most memorable.

Frankly, it’s not because the title made Seth Rollins—Seth Rollins made the WWE title matter again.
