Carson Beck Injured, Latest Rumors on Cardinals QB's Status After Impressive Hall of Fame Game

After an impressive outing in the Hall of Fame game, Arizona Cardinals rookie quarterback Carson Beck won't be on the field this week.

Per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Beck is dealing with a rib injury and will sit out Thursday's preseason game against the Las Vegas Raiders. Rapoport noted that Jacoby Brissett will get the start, though that was announced before Beck's injury designation.

Beck, a third-round pick out of Miami, had a strong performance in his first NFL action, completing 15 of 19 passes for 188 yards and a touchdown before Kedon Slovis took over under center.

"It feels great to go in and succeed and execute within the offense. And, obviously, again, there's going to be things to fix," Beck told reporters after the game. "You got to go watch the tape and there's always so much room to improve, even just being a rookie, being a new guy and kind of getting my first taste of the league."

The Cardinals will hope to get Beck back for their third preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys, but keeping him healthy for the regular season is the main goal at the moment.

Beck, 23, had an outstanding college career at Georgia and then Miami. The Cardinals perhaps didn't draft him with the intention of him becoming the franchise quarterback, but he'll certainly look to get playing time early this season.

It can be presumed that he'll begin the year as the third-string quarterback behind Jacoby Brissett and Gardner Minshew, so snaps might be hard to come by as a rookie.

Still, his performance in the Hall of Fame game gave the Cardinals coaching staff a good idea of what he's capable of, and another strong preseason showing later on could increase his chances of moving up the depth chart.
