Browns HC Monken Shuts Down Question on Shedeur Sanders, Deshaun Watson QB Battle in Funny Video
Todd Monken may be in his first year as head coach of the Cleveland Browns, but he already has the media savvy of someone who has held the position for much longer.
While speaking to reporters on Monday, Monken was asked to clarify whether he declared that veteran quarterback Deshaun Watson is "better" than second-year signal-caller Shedeur Sanders. Monken quickly pumped the brakes on any notion that he made such a comparison between his players.
"I'm not sure I went that far, but I appreciate you trying to trap me in that s--t," Monken said.

Watson and Sanders are battling for the starting quarterback job for the Browns this season. While Watson missed all of 2025 while recovering from a torn Achilles, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport recently reported that he has the "leg up" over Sanders because he is "more well-versed in the Browns' operations."
As Watson and Sanders continue competing, it's clear that Monken is ready to field any "gotcha" questions before deciding on the team's starting quarterback for this year.
