Haynes King's Taysom Hill-Like Role for Panthers Teased After Hall of Fame Game Win by NFL Insider

After a strong performance in last week's Hall of Fame game against the Arizona Cardinals, Carolina Panthers rookie quarterback Haynes King appears to have solidified his spot on the roster.

During an appearance on Monday's episode of The Pat McAfee Show, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that he not only expects King to survive the final roster cuts, but he also could see playing time during his rookie season as a gadget player.

"He's gonna make the team, and it wouldn't shock me if they ended up using him like in a Taysom Hill role," Schefter said.

Hill, who is currently a free agent after spending nine seasons with the New Orleans Saints, was known as "the Human Swiss Army Knife" because of his versatility. He was used in a multitude of ways on offense and special teams, recording 12 passing touchdowns, 34 rushing touchdowns and 11 touchdown receptions during his career.

King was the hero of Thursday's Hall of Fame game, throwing for 180 yards and two touchdowns while also rushing for 39 yards and the game-winning touchdown. He picked up a hamstring injury that will force him to miss time, and the Panthers signed veteran quarterback Kyle Trask to play behind starter Bryce Young and backup Kenny Pickett.

Still, it sounds like King will be an offensive weapon for the Panthers when he's back at full strength, so it will be fun to see how he's deployed during his rookie campaign.
