Maxx Crosby, Kirk Cousins Disciplined by Raiders' Klint Kubiak After Training Camp Scuffle

After a scuffle between Kirk Cousins and Maxx Crosby during Friday's practice, Las Vegas Raiders head coach Klint Kubiak disciplined both players.

Speaking to reporters after Saturday's practice, Kubiak explained both players were held out today as punishment for their actions.

"We have very clear expectations on how we want to practice and how we want to go about our business and we violated that yesterday, so held those guys out. That's all I'm gonna say about it," Kubiak said.

Kubiak added both players are expected to be back for the Raiders' next practice.

The situation occurred during the team period on Friday when Crosby hit Cousins twice, prompting the veteran quarterback to get in Crosby's face and grab the collar of his jersey.

Kubiak downplayed the situation yesterday, describing it as part of the training camp process.

"That's training camp," Kubiak told reporters. "Those are two leaders of our team going at it. That is part of camp. Obviously, you fight in a game, you throw a punch in a game and you're out of the game. So, we've got to be smart. Treat it like a game."

Crosby's on-field intensity at all times, including training camp, has been something the Raiders coaching staff has taken notice of. He even said earlier this week the coaches have warned him to tone things down a bit:

"I just can't tell you how many people have come up to me already and just been like, 'All right, so you know at practice, you can't do this. I got up a whole textbook full of rules that I got to follow, or I'm going to get in trouble, but that comes with it. ... I practice one way. I know that I push the line, and sometimes I go over the line."

Don't hit the quarterback is one of the cardinal rules for every NFL team during training camp. It also makes sense why Cousins, who turns 38 on Aug. 19 and has suffered Achilles and shoulder injuries in recent years, might be extra sensitive to taking unnecessary contact.

Crosby is working his way back into playing shape after undergoing knee surgery in January. His future with the Raiders is something to monitor after the Baltimore Ravens agreed to a trade for the five-time Pro Bowler in March only for the deal to fall apart amid concerns over the state of his knee during a physical.
