Puka Nacua's Status Updated by Rams' Sean McVay amid NFL Rumors on Contract Talks

Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay anticipates having Puka Nacua on the field for the start of training camp despite not having a contract extension done right now.

McVay told reporters he expects Nacua to practice with the team for their first official workout on Sunday.

ESPN's Sarah Barshop posted a picture of Nacua arriving at Rams camp on Saturday.

Nacua, who is entering the final year of his rookie contract, could be subject to a suspension from the NFL under the personal conduct policy following a civil lawsuit in which he was accused of assault and battery.

The Rams have not yet signed any of their 2023 draftees to contract extensions, though that could be a calculated decision on their part because of the money they have already added to their books this offseason.

Trent McDuffie signed a four-year, $124 million extension that made him the highest-paid cornerback in the NFL after being acquired in a trade with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Myles Garrett was traded to the Rams and restructured his contract to pay him $208.2 million over the next five years.

As things currently stand, the Rams have four players with cap hits over $20 million in 2027 and nine players will account for 53.6 percent of the projected cap. They only have four picks in next year's draft, including one in the first three rounds, because of their trades for McDuffie and Garrett.

Nacua's 313 receptions and 4,191 receiving yards since entering the NFL in 2023 both rank in the top five among all wide receivers. He set career-highs last season in receptions (129), receiving yards (1,715) and receiving touchdowns (10).
