New Rashee Rice Injury Update, Training Camp Status Revealed By Chiefs' Andy Reid Amid NFL Offseason

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice has been cleared from his knee injury ahead of training camp, head coach Andy Reid told reporters Friday.

"Rashee Rice, with his knee debridement, is doing great... He is cleared to go," Reid said Friday, per A to Z Sports' Charles Goldman.

Rice underwent surgery on his right knee in May, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Chiefs training camp is set to begin next Wednesday in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Rice has been limited to just 12 total games over the last two seasons after a season-ending right knee injury suffered on a collision with Patrick Mahomes in September 2024.

That collision originally necessitated Rice to undergo surgery to repair his LCL, which sidelined him for the rest of the 2024 season and the start of the 2025 campaign.

The procedure Rice underwent in May addressed lingering problems from that injury, Schefter reported.

Rice's debridement surgery was designed to "remove loose debris that was causing inflammation," according to Schefter.

The wide receiver suffered "no structural damage to his knee" but needed to procedure to address discomfort, per Schefter.

Rice recorded 938 receiving yards and seven touchdowns in 16 games of his rookie 2023 season before helping the Chiefs win Super Bowl LVIII later that winter.

Although the wide receiver's next two seasons were derailed by his knee injury, the Chiefs will hope this latest procedure will help the 26-year-old build on his rookie campaign this fall.

What Rice is able to achieve will hinge in large part on the availability of Patrick Mahomes, who suffered his own season-ending knee injury last winter.

Reid told reporters Friday Mahomes has been cleared for full practice ahead of training camp, which marks a huge step toward the Chiefs' hopes of returning to playoff contention this season.

Chiefs training camp runs from July 29 through Aug. 12. The team's first preseason game is scheduled for an Aug. 15 matchup against the visiting Los Angeles Rams.
