Malik Nabers Injury Update Provided in New NFL Rumors Ahead of Giants Training Camp

New York Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers' availability for Week 1 of the 2026 NFL season will depend on his progress in training camp, according to ESPN's Jordan Raanan.

"The third-year WR is still rehabbing that right knee he tore in Week 4 last season," Raanan reported Thursday. "The Giants are crossing their fingers he can be ready for their opener this season against the Dallas Cowboys (it's a realistic possibility at this point), but nobody really knows. When and how he returns will be contingent on the progress he makes throughout the summer. As a result, all eyes will be on Nabers, who is expected to avoid the physically unable to perform list. When he runs, how he runs and when he can practice will be deduced based off his every move."

Nabers is still working his way back from a torn ACL that he suffered in Sept. 2025 before undergoing surgery one month later.

He eventually underwent a procedure to remove scar tissue that was causing stiffness in his injured knee earlier this offseason, but it wasn't expected to affect his recovery timeline.

On June 10, Giants head coach John Harbaugh revealed that Nabers was over halfway through his rehab process.

"Like I said, it's a slog, it's a grind," Harbaugh said at the time, per Raanan. "He's still in the middle of it. He's probably not in the middle of it now. He's probably maybe 70 percent through. I don't know, something like that, 80 percent through."

Nabers wrapped up an impressive rookie year in 2024, hauling in 109 receptions for 1,204 yards and seven touchdowns. He earned a Pro Bowl nod and set a new Giants franchise record for catches in a single season.

He recorded 271 yards and two touchdowns prior to the injury in 2025.

If Nabers ultimately isn't ready for Week 1, Darius Slayton and Calvin Austin III should see larger roles in New York's passing attack. Third-round rookie Malachi Fields could also receive more playing time.

The Giants will open their 2026 campaign against the Dallas Cowboys on Sept. 13.
