Malik Nabers Injury Update on Giants Star's Knee and Timeline to Return After Latest Surgery

Andrew PetersMay 13, 2026

After undergoing surgery to repair his ACL and meniscus in October, New York Giants star receiver Malik Nabers underwent another operation in recent weeks.

Per Dan Duggan of The Athletic, Nabers had surgery "multiple weeks ago" to "clean up" scar tissue around his knee that was causing stiffness. The latest procedure is not expected to affect his recovery timeline, according to Duggan, and the hope remains that he will be ready by the start of the season.

Nabers suffered a torn ACL and a partially torn meniscus in September after the team's Week 4 win against the Los Angeles Chargers. He didn't have surgery until about a month after the injury, which NFL Network's Ian Rapoport noted was because Nabers wanted to "pre-hab" the injury.

"As far as why it's taken a month between the injury and surgery, there's something called 'pre-hab,' which is essentially when players strengthen and stretch the area around the knee just to make rehab better when he eventually has surgery," Rapoport said.

General manager Joe Schoen updated Nabers' timeline in February, saying that the "hope" is for him to be ready by training camp, which begins in late July.

"Malik is trending to hopefully be ready for training camp," Schoen told reporters. "Things can change ... but that's the hope."

Nabers, who was drafted sixth overall in 2024 out of LSU, had a tremendous rookie season in which he recorded 1,204 receiving yards and seven touchdowns in 15 games. He was off to a solid start in 2025 with 271 yards and two touchdowns through the first four games, including a contest in which he had 167 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

The hope now is that Nabers won't face any more setbacks and will be ready to return to action soon. New York is still deep in its rebuild, but Nabers is the kind of player who can expedite that rebuild if he's healthy.
