Patrick Kane Landing Spots in 2026 NHL Free Agency Revealed by Chris Chelios in Video

Joseph ZuckerJul 15, 2026

Decorated forward Patrick Kane is choosing between the Chicago Blackhawks and Buffalo Sabres, according to NHL legend Chris Chelios.

Chelios said on 104.3 The Score he recently spoke with Kane, who indicated his free agency is down to two teams:

Signing with the Blackhawks would allow Kane to bring his career full circle. Only Stan Mikita and Duncan Keith have made more appearances for the franchise, and he ranks third all time in goals (446) and second in assists (779).

There would be the added narrative of Kane, one of the players most synonymous with Chicago's three Stanley Cups in the 2010s, potentially passing the torch to Connor Bedard and kicking off the next competitive cycle.

Signing with the Sabres would have Kane playing for his hometown team. A homecoming for the Buffalo native is something the fanbase has dream of for a while.

The Sabres are also coming off a season in which they totaled the second-most points in the Eastern Conference. They can pitch themselves as a serious playoff threat for 2027.

At 37, Kane has fallen off a bit yet remains effective on the ice. He had 16 goals and 41 assists for the Detroit Red Wings this past year while appearing in 67 games.

For Chicago and Buffalo, pursuing the 2015-16 Hart Trophy winner is about more than just sentiment. Kane will strengthen either team's forward line.

Chelios suggested that a final decision could come soon, so fans may not have to wait too much longer to see which organization wins out.
