Novak Djokovic advanced to the third round with little issue Tuesday, easily dispatching of Thomaz Bellucci 6-3, 7-6 in his first match since triumphing at Wimbledon. It also happened to be his 250th ATP Masters 1000 match, per the ATP World Tour on Twitter.

Djokovic is the clear favorite at the tournament—and just about any other tournament he plays in at this point—but he was quick to dismiss his previous success at this particular tournament as aiding him this year, per Coupe Rogers on Twitter:

Djokovic won the tournament in 2007 and 2012.

Outside of Djokovic, the biggest story on the men's side was the upset of No. 12 Kevin Anderson, who bowed out against Lukas Rosol 7-6, 7-6 in a hotly contested match.

Tomorrow's matches will feature more big names, with No. 3 Stan Wawrinka, No. 5 Tomas Berdych, No. 6 Marin CilicNo. 7 Rafael Nadal and No. 10 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga all in action.

Rain washed away most of the matches at the Rogers Cup on Monday. On Tuesday, the usual torrent of upsets in the women's game washed away several of the top contenders.

No player in the women's game seems safe—well, except for one particular player, but more on her below—as No. 9 Carla Suarez Navarro, No. 10 Karolina Pliskova and No. 12 Timea Bacsinszky were knocked out of play.

Top contender and No. 1 seed Serena Williams had some issues of her own, dropping her first set against Flavia Pennetta, though she dominated the next two to move on.

"I was really frustrated with how I was playing," Williams told the Associated Press (via ESPN.com). "And then I got really angry. ... So I said, 'Serena, you're going to have to be positive and be good to yourself out here.'"

Clearly, the pep talk worked.

Eugenie Bouchard could probably use a pep talk. The struggling Canadian star didn't last long at the Rogers Cup, failing to advance past the first round after losing to Belinda Bencic. Sadly, disappointing losses have become the norm for Bouchard, per Bryan Hayes of TSN:

While Bouchard's woes continued, contenders like Victoria Azarenka, No. 11 Ekaterina Makarova and No. 13 Angelique Kerber all advanced.

The last match of the evening saw the Citi Open's champion, Sloane Stephens, fall to Dominika Cibulkova in straight sets. Here is Wednesday's complete schedule:

The women will take over the schedule Wednesday as the rest of the second round will play out after Williams' victory over Pennetta. Notable high-seeded players to take the court Wednesday include Caroline Wozniacki, Ana Ivanovic and Agnieszka Radwanska, who are ranked No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6, respectively.

Last week's winner at the Bank of the West Classic, Kerber looks to see her hot play continue, after winning 12 of her last 13 matches, with a tilt against Monica Puig. Though a bevy of matches might dilute the talent playing in the second round, plenty of quality will be on display at the Rogers Cup.
