Brandon Aiyuk Calls Out 49ers, NFLPA Over Voided Contract Guarantees in New IG Videos, Photo

Wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk pushed for the San Francisco 49ers to release him from his contract in a series of videos posted Thursday to his Instagram story.

After noting his guarantees were voided in July 2025, Aiyuk said in a video: "And they saying all this 'cause I missed rehab. No. I didn't miss rehab, I just didn't rehab with y'all... get me off your bum-ass team, man."

Aiyuk also tagged the NFL Players' Association and wrote: "Can I get a fresh set of eyes on this case !! Cuz the ones on it right now obviously sleeping on the job!!!"

Aiyuk last played during the 2024 NFL season, which ended early when he suffered a torn ACL that November.

The Niners voided the guaranteed money in his contract for 2026 the following July. Aiyuk currently remains under contract through the 2028 season.

Aiyuk has seemingly been making public comments about the 49ers since the team declined to release him on June 1.

He has also previously criticized the NFLPA, including accusing the union of "withholding information."

The 49ers signed Aiyuk to a four-year, $120 million extension with $76 million in guarantees in August 2024.

ESPN's Nick Wagoner reported in November 2025 the 49ers had voided a 2026 option bonus worth $24.935 million because Aiyuk "had not been meeting the requirements of that deal."

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler added shortly afterward: "A few people I've checked with believe an issue was Aiyuk's failure to show up for rehab appointments during the offseason."

NBC Sports' Matt Maiocco recently reported the 49ers could seek to get more money back from Aiyuk by recouping parts of his $23 million signing bonus.

Maiocco also reported there was no grievance filed on Aiyuk's behalf when the 49ers voided his future guarantees last July.

Aiyuk has indicated in multiple recent social media posts that he expects to land with the Washington Commanders.

The Athletic's Nicki Jhabvala recently reported the Commanders would have considered signing Aiyuk to "a one-year, highly incentivized deal" had the 49ers released Aiyuk.

Jhabvala added the Commanders were at no point planning to trade for the wide receiver, and that to sign him at this point the franchise would "have to feel incredibly confident that he's fit, physically and emotionally."

Aiyuk, 28, was initially selected by the 49ers in the first round of the 2020 draft. He recorded consecutive 1,000-yard campaigns in 2022 and 2023 before the knee injury that derailed his last active season in San Francisco.
