Juan Soto, Francisco Lindor 2025 Mets Drama Confirmed by Steve Cohen, Trade Rumors Dismissed

Doric SamJul 1, 2026

It sounds like there's some truth to the reported friction between New York Mets stars Juan Soto and Francisco Lindor from the end of last season.

During an appearance on The Show podcast, Mets owner Steve Cohen confirmed to Joel Sherman and Jon Heyman of the New York Post that there were simmering tensions between Soto and Lindor in 2025, but those issues have since been resolved.

"Frankly, I think that's a story that was last year's story," Cohen said, per Collin Ward of the New York Post. "I am told and believe strongly that these guys are getting along much better. And so, I just don't see that as an issue anymore."

Mike Puma of the New York Post reported in November that Soto and Lindor had a "chilly" relationship after their first season together. Former Mets manager Carlos Mendoza denied the assertion, saying that he felt everyone in the locker room "enjoyed being around each other."

Mendoza's optimistic view of the Mets wasn't enough to bring success this year, as the team ranks last in the NL East with a 36-50 record. The team fired Mendoza last week and named Andy Green the interim manager for the rest of the season. Cohen said during his podcast appearance that president of baseball operations David Stearns, who is in the third year of a five-year contract, won't be dismissed amid the team's struggles.

In addition to Stearns' job being safe, Cohen declared that he doesn't intend to trade Soto or Lindor while the Mets try to turn things around. Soto has 13 seasons left on the record-breaking 15-year, $765 million contract he signed in 2024, and Lindor has six years remaining on his 10-year, $341 million deal.

"I don't see them going anywhere," Cohen said, adding, "I'm lucky enough to have two high-quality players like that and with the elimination of whatever issues there were last year, I'm thrilled that they're on the team."
