Brandon Aiyuk Drops Money in a Closet in New Video amid 49ers Contract Standoff, Commanders Rumors

Adam WellsJun 25, 2026

It's another day, which means it's time for another Brandon Aiyuk video post on social media as he continues to try antagonizing the San Francisco 49ers amid the standoff between the two sides.

In this new video, Aiyuk is seen in a closet pulling money out of a backpack and dropping it on the floor in an apparent reference to how much the 49ers have paid him after signing a new contract in August 2024.

Aiyuk's videos have become a near-daily presence as the wait for a resolution to his situation with the 49ers continues. He dropped one yesterday holding a Washington Commanders football because they have frequently popped up as a landing spot if he becomes a free agent.

"Best team in the world," Aiyuk wrote in the caption about the Commanders. He also said in the video that he would be ready to "sign with the Commanders" as soon as the 49ers release him.

The 49ers' issues with Aiyuk seemed to start after the 2023 season. He was coming off a second-team All-Pro selection that year, but the team engaged in a prolonged contract negotiation that dragged on to the start of training camp.

It eventually resolved with Aiyuk signing a four-year, $120 million contract extension less than two weeks before the start of the regular season. He struggled early in the 2024 campaign, then his season ended in Week 7 due to a torn ACL and MCL suffered in a loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

That remains the last time Aiyuk appeared in a game. The 49ers voided the remaining guaranteed money in his contract last November for failing to attend meetings and declining to participate in team activities for an extended period.

Aiyuk told the NFL Players Association not to file a grievance on his behalf, seemingly clearing the way for him to be released.

However, the 49ers have not made that move at this point. ESPN's Adam Schefter recently said on his podcast that Aiyuk could be released when training camp opens next month, but he also suggested other teams might have some concerns about bringing the veteran wideout in based on his recent social media posting.

The Commanders have long been regarded as a potential landing spot for Aiyuk because of his connection to Jayden Daniels. They were college teammates at Arizona State in 2019.

A first-round pick in the 2020 draft, Aiyuk appeared in 69 games for the 49ers over five seasons. He had more than 1,000 yards in back-to-back seasons in 2022 and '23.
