Brandon Aiyuk Calls Commanders 'Best Team in the World' in New Video amid 49ers Rumors

Andrew PetersJun 24, 2026

Wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk has long teased the Washington Commanders as his favored landing spot this offseason, and that continued on Wednesday.

Aiyuk posted a video of himself holding a Commanders football, and he wrote in the caption, "Best team in the world."

Aiyuk is still technically with the San Francisco 49ers, but a split between the two sides is inevitable at this point. Aiyuk signed a four-year, $120 million contract with the Niners after the 2023 season, but he hasn't played since a few games into the 2024 campaign when he suffered a torn ACL and MCL.

Last July, San Francisco voided the remaining guaranteed money in Aiyuk's contract after he did not participate in his rehab sessions. Since then, things have only gone south.

He was placed on the reserve/left team list in December, and 49ers general manager John Lynch said in January that Aiyuk effectively was no longer a member of the team.

"I think it's safe to say that he's played his last snap with the Niners," Lynch said. "It's unfortunate. A situation that just went awry. And I will look long and hard at what could have been done differently, but sometimes it just doesn't work out. And I think that this was a case where that happened."

In recent weeks, Aiyuk has posted a number of cryptic messages on his social media, including a video where he seemed to say that the 49ers haven't released him because they're "scared" of how he will perform with another team.

Aiyuk has also posted several videos indicating that he wants to play for the Commanders.

Aiyuk has made it clear he wants to be in Washington this season, but whether the Commanders have mutual interest remains to be seen.

At his best, Aiyuk is an All-Pro caliber receiver who can be the No. 1 option on a championship team, but fans haven't seen that version of him since 2023. His recent fallout with the Niners could also make teams hesitant to sign him once he hits free agency.
